Stillness
I kept myself still in the forest, Listening. the rustle of a thousand leaves, Moving. the wind carried their sounds to me. the happenstance way their branches held them. everything attached to something else. the lingering smell of bark and grass as if rubbed together. heady I am inside. thinking to become a tree or a leaf. kept still in the forest, so still I stayed. when it came time to leave I never really did. for I am wet leaves in a black sea now. floating amongst the waves. The Lights That Shine In You And Me
The forest has a name. The choice was informed by the gold lights that shined their patterns within the leafy pathways. All around angels would fly catching the lights. In this way they could place those lights in far off lands where forests were beginning to grow. They wanted to light them up when they were ready to bloom. So they traveled through all the lit pathways of cascading leaves. There was such joy and light in their gaze. At last they held the lights to spread and venture far today, they said. Their flight was long through wind and might, yet the angels held on to all the light. They knew the light as soon as placed, would give peace a way to begin each day. They sensed the forest’s name would grow, this peaceful sense for all to know. A child may ask what is this joy? The answer lives in how we see, the lights that shine in you and me. Copyright S. Raine
raine was her name. under pink clouds. trees dripping water. puddles splashing sounds. streaks of brown hair. tied together in two. braids she had woven. each day, always new. all the pink flowers. sprang forth from the clouds. she went there to see them. their beauty she found. the colors matched sunshine and sparkling eyes. she touched what she noticed. pink flowers inside. the sweet air for raine. is now part of her home. where clouds engage treetops and flowers are grown.
